Hi all,

Newbie to home recording. This is very raw song idea with keyboard solo and out of tune guitar, but before I go further, feedback on the song in general and how to improve it would be most welcome.

I am a drummer not a guitarist, so please excuse the poor guitar playing. Recorded using a Zoom G3 in Reaper with a keyboard bass, keyboard solo guitar tone through guitar rig 5 and EZDrummer.

The distorted guitar could use some of the highest frequencies trimmed.

The solo could use a little chorus or reverb to fatten it, maybe even give it a little stereo depth. It kinda jumps from one spot when the rest of the mix has a decent reverb/roomy feel to it the solo sounds too dry.

Sounds like a good first try! Welcome to the sickness. :)

From a composition standpoint I'd probably pluck the opening 18 seconds of guitar (and each time it's being used without the distorted guitar). This will add some distance between the dissonant notes lost when just strumming it (I realize this may be a challange for someone new to guitar playing).

I like the distorted tone more on this new take. The solo is definitely fatter and fits into the mix more now too.

Music is okay, would need vocals or more lead work peppered throughout to carry as an instrumental. From a production standpoint the mix is good enough in its current form, and will probably only need some minor tinkering after vocals/solos are added.

Whatever chords you're playing on the clean guitar in the intro - sound like they're twisting up your fingers and are coming across as slightly flubbed. Vocals could be more upfront like the solo is. Cool song that chugs along nicely.

What ido said re. the opening section. I'd also hazard that as a standalone guitar sound, that opening is way, way, way too chorusy and thin. You can sort of get away with it when there's distorted guitar along with it, but I don't think it's a good enough out on its own.

You have heavy vocal clipping at 3.10 ish for a while... the spoken bit.

The guitar solo almost doesn't sound like a guitar it's so buried and effected... fine if that's the intention, but I can't help but feel it'd be better if it sounded like a real guitar a bit more and came up.

Way better than your first mix, though.. and just my $0.02.. :thumbs up:
