Hey I'm new here, my equipment consists of Cool edit pro/Adobe Audition for a DAW and a Samson Co1u USB mic. How would I mix and master rap vocals with an already finished instrumental? I'm not asking for "the magic settings" or anything like that? Just what should I use, and in what order? Like Compression, EQ, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I'm going to leave this one to the rap & USB microphone experts.

the difficulty with adding vocal track to a prerecorded track is the chances are theyve mastered or finalized it to a commercial level to sell it.

Reverb and/or delay will drop your vocals into a track but really compression is to stop peaks of loudness, if it doesnt have any then you dont need it or use it sparingly...EQ will be more useful in fitting your vocals in..just remember the human vocal doesnt cover that much of a range of frequencies singing, let alone rap, so dont be cutting too much out it..

in truth if you track well, use decent mic technique, staying well clear of 0db, theres no reason a bit of delay wont drop your vocals into the mix...just dont expect miraces with a backing track made on $$$$$$ equipment while you're on a USB mic
