This problem could be suited for the Soundcard or Cakewalk forums but it's pretty dumb and I'm a newbie so I'm posting it in here and hope someone can help.

I got an Audiophile 2496, yet when I tried to change Cakewalk's Audio Driver Bit Depth and File Bit Depths to 24, it now won't even recognize the Audiophile when selecting audio source in trackview.

I've got a feeling the problem might be with the Audio Driver Bit Depth. But shouldn't I be able to have it set to 24 now that I have the Audiophile?

It is a 24bit card, but some software does not support 24 bit cards. Check with cakewalk or you may need a patch or update.

No, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 definitely supports 24-bit and 96kHz recording.

Yes you'd think so.

So my question, apart from why would it not work in the first place, is what is the effective difference between 24 Bit 'File Depth' and 24 bit 'Driver Depth'? You'd think that if one works (which it does) so would the other (which it doesn't).

Thanks for breaking the bad news. No point in shooting the messenger lol. Thanks for solving my problem though.

Hmm where's that spare $A700 I left lying around..... (breaks down and cries)
