At the moment I am using 2 SM57's and an AT813a to record. I am looking to expand my mic collection a bit with a better condenser mic. The AT813 sounds great but it isn't as warm as I'd like. I need a microphone that can handle soft vocals and soft acoustic guitar. Of the C1 and NT1 which is warmer, and battery versus phantom power (is one quieter than the other?)

Next, the 57's are good for the amps and some drum stuff, but they don't really do it for me when I use them for live vocals. Has anyone had any experience with the EV Cobalt series of mics? They're cheap and they seem alright, but should I just go ahead and get an SM58 beta or something?

Thank you for your help

trace, no contest between the NT1 and C1- the C1 is clearly better for
vocals. The Cobalt C09 is a fine dynamic mike, especially for "rock" type
vocals as the "mids" and "highs" are a bit accentuated.
A large diaphram mike like the C1, however, would usually be used for
recording vocals.

What kind of mic pre or mixer are you using, and does it have phantom
power?
