Newbie damsel in distress! US 122

Hey all!

I'm a newbie to home recording. I looked around and decided to get a Tascam US 122, partly for the reason that it claimed to be easy to use. I installed it and Cubase LE on my Dell with Windows XP.

Here's the problem- it's connected, the USB light is on, my guitar is plugged in to line/guitar in L (with it switched to "guitar")...but the "sig" light isn't lit. I've attempted to record, but it doesn't register. What could the problem be? Keep in mind I'm a newbie, so don't dismiss any answer for being too obvious :)

Does it have something to do with my input levels? I really have NO idea what's wrong, so I'd really appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks in advance!

Hey there,

I sometimes have a similar prob with my 122. Have you been plugging in the 122 after you've started the computer? I run mine through my Mac, and I find that if I restart my computer with the 122 plugged in it seems to work fine after that. Not sure how the interface works in XP but it's worth a try!

I've been connecting it after starting the computer. I've now figured out how to get my mic to work with it, but it still doesn't see a signal from my guitar when it's plugged in. Ah well.

Thanks for your suggestion!

If you're plugging your guitar directly into the line/guitar in, you'll have to turn up the input gain (the big knob) significantly, to get any signal. Also, make sure direct monitoring is "on," and Mono is "on."
