Hello,

I have opened up my tascam cdrw-2000 because it quit reading discs and the Welcome screen was flakey, and sure enough I saw a bulging capacitor just as shown in an earlier post on this forum. If anyone could help me with specifications for the needed capacitor, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, does anyone know if Teac optical drives W-54E A-90 are available?

Thank you,

I don't have that unit but the CD-RW700 that blew up on me one day, was listening to music on it and it suddenly stopped playing...I was in the kitchen and looked in the livin room and it was SMOKING to my surprise !!! So me and my son opened it up and managed to get the stuck CD out of it and turned it on and saw it smoking again so I thought it would probably be no good anymore. So I had it laying in the back room for like 3 weeks and had an idea.Bring it by my good friend that is a TV repairman (he's fixed 4TK cassette decks for me before) and brought it to him. He opened it up right then and there and put his big magnifying glass in front of it. He says "look,I already see whats wrong take a look".....so I looked and didn't see anything of course LoL and then while I was looking in the big magnifying glass, he took his finger and put it on the burnt capacitor(lil round looking M&M) and crushed it into ashes and I said WOW that's it hahaha. So he went looking around his old TV shop and found the capacitor(M&M)and soldered it in place while I watched and checked it and and and and and....fixed all within 15 minutes!!! I said how much I owe ya? He said ten dollars?? Like that and I said man here take $20 !!! Moral of the story; Don't "chunck" things to quickly cause ya never know when your local TV repairman might be right around the corner from you waiting to have fun with something like this !!!;)
