Just installed VST 5.1 (not the 32 version, the older one) on my PC.

I have Soundblaster 64 for a soundcard. I have a Behringer 6 channel mixer. And I have about 550 mms of latency.

I can't figure out for the life of me how to get rid of it or get around it.

Can somebody please tell me how to deal with latency!

I been mucking about in the ASIO panel and I can't get the monitor function to get rid of the problem.

Is there a way to use the mixer to avoid the returning sound?

Is there a way to turn off or modify the settings in in my Soundblaster card (I'm a computer idiot as well...)

Any thoughts and advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

MAYBRICK5:

I'M NOT SURE IF I UNDERSTAND YOUR PREDICAMENT CORRECTLY,
(AND PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I AM NOT CORRECT IN MY UNDERSTANDING) BUT IF YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH RECORDING A NEW TRACK LIVE, WHILE OTHER,PREVIOUSLY RECORDED TRACKS PLAY...AND THAT ECHO BOUNCES BACK AT YOU WHILE TRYING TO RECORD, AND THE ECHO THROWS YOU ALL OFF ...I'M USING CUBASE 5.0 (YOU SAID YOU'RE USING AN OLDER VERSION?...PERHAPS TRY THIS TRICK I STUMBLED ON)...
UNDER YOUR "PANELS" TOOLBAR AT TOP (OR SOMETHING ON YOUR CUBASE THAT WOULD BE EQUIVALENT), GO TO A "VST CHANNEL MIXER 1".....HAVE ALL THE CHANNEL FADERS IN THE UPPER POSITION,SO YOU CAN HEAR WHAT PLAYBACK CHANNELS YOU NEED TO....BUT THE MATCHING CHANNEL ON THAT MIXER THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE TRACK YOU ARE ABOUT TO RECORD ON, BRING THAT INDIVIDUAL FADER CHANNEL ALL THE WAY DOWN SO IT IS QUIET. THAT CHANNEL FADER IS WHAT CONTROLS THE VOLUME ON THAT LATENCY/ ECHO THAT THROWS ME OFF TOO! YOU SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO HEAR YOURSELF WHILE RECORDING (BUT W/O THE ECHO!) YOUR SYSTEM SHOULD AUTOMATICALY COMPENSATE THE LATENCY TO RECORDED TIME (IN OTHER WORDS, DON'T WORY ABOUT HOW IT RECORDS, YOUR COMPUTER/ETC. WILL ADJUST IT FOR YOU)...AGAIN, I'M ALSO NEW AT THIS STUFF, BUT THAT TRICK I JUST TOLD YOU SHOULD WORK.

Go to : http://come.to/sblive and download the APS Drivers.
They're free and they reduce your latency to 8ms.
I originally used them on a Soundblaster Live Value card ,currently using them with a Soundblaster Platinum 5.1,with 100% success.I use Cubase 5.1r1 and have'nt had a problem yet.
Hope this helps - diz

aboogonza has it....

download the dedicated ASIO driver, it is the best way to go and should get you low enough you don't have a noticable lag time.

I am running an Aardvark Q-10 and with it's dedicated driver I dropped latency down to 4 miliseconds...too low to hear a lag.
