Hey all, I made up this short little "blurb" just so I can get some advice from you folks. All it is is my Acoustic and my bass. I ran them both direct through my Presonus Blue Tube and to my SBLive!. I did not put any effects on anything, everything is dry.

Sounds pretty nice to me. A little reverb would sooth out everything. Playing is pretty tight. Couple of off beats/notes. All in all a nice sounding mix. Maybe bring up that lead acoustic.

Hey thanks! Yeah I noticed the off beat bass notes, but that is easy to fix. I wasn't using my headphones to record it so it is understandable.

What lead acoustic? Hehe, that little lame-o riff I put in there? I ain't much of a player I just wanted to add some color to the "song".


My biggest problem is figuring out how to have everything "come in" at the right time. How do you all do it? Do you count to four or something before you start playing?
 
I didnt mean the bass, itr sounded pretty tight. The rythym acoustic/ and lead acoustic both had a couple of off notes. I use the click in Nuendo to play along to, and alos to count me in. When I'm playing with a drummer, I put 4 cowbell hits before the song starts (midi sequenced in Nuendo).

Oh, lol. I read your post wrong, I though you said "A couple of off bass notes not "beat/notes" haha.
 
Nut, for knowing when to come in, I always record my drums in Fruity Loops first...the first bar i always just have a rimshot counting the 1,2,3,4.....before mixdown, i delete that out....of course you can do the same thing with a voice counting in 1,2,3,4 and editing that out at the mixing stage....

As far as the recording, it sounded pretty damn good...the bass could have come up a tad along with that "lead" riff.....but all that isnt that important at this point...the main thing is getting a decent sound to "tape", and you did....you are on the way...

was that just one track off acoustic strumming?

If you still have the sm57 and Nt1, you may want to try some stereo micing since you have a stereo preamp.....panned hard right and left.....
 
And if you really wanna impress me, put a vocal over that.....
 
Haha. Yeah, vocals, next chore. I am just having a terrible time coming up with a good melody with that. I will bring up that bass more, I though I had it right before, but then I put on my headphones and it was too much.

I took three guitar tracks. It would sound better (probably) if I miced it but I just wanted to lay some stuff down so I plugged it in direct.

i love the melody of the song.i came up with a little vocal line for a verse already. if ya want it,let me know.ill just hum the melody ,and if ya like it,you can make up your own words. what works for me,when i have a nice piece of music like that,is to listen to it in my car,etc with a little tape recorder near by. if i get a good idea i get it on tape (because i always forget stuff like that.) sometimes your best ideas come when youre away from the studio,and the songs just on in the background.thats when it always seems to "come to me".

No problem here...if you pass on the melody to me, I have tons of lyrics just sitting around, and something just might fit it.....

You think the record companieslet the artist make money off their songs?....so young, so much to learn....
 
haha i dont think youll be making millions of the melody I wrote for ya. but for sure get the words from gidge,i just put in two sentences that rhymed,and repeated them. if i were you id use the part as a chorus.im not set up for recording with a PC,i use a stand alone unit. so i just used that mic thing that came with the computer. i think what im gonna send ya sucks,but oh well. it took 5 minutes. this is sorta fun.
