Newbie needing help

I have a Tascam 788, Shure SM57 and 58s, Sound Blaster 5.1 with the Live Drive and software packages that come with it. How should I go about recording the tracks, mixing down and saving to a wav file on the computer? I'm totally new to digital recording and would like any suggestions. I have heard that CUBASE is a good program, what can it do? How does taking the recording from the tascam and putting it on the computer work? Is it better quality wise to mix, master, etc on the tascam or the computer? Thanks!

This thread will probably get ignored or flamed. I'd suggest posting it in the 'Newbies' forum. You might also break down your needs and desires a little more. Give as much background on your setup and knowledge as you can. Make it easier for somebody to answer. Also . . . call it something other than "Newbie needing help"; everybody uses something similar and they don't get very many answers usually.
