Hi im just a newbie, I just started using cool edit pro 2.1. I've already watched a ton of tutorial videos on youtube, Lately I've been writing some music and I want to record it and make it sound like it was recorded in the studio if possible, can somebody please help / teach me some settings on how to make a studio quality sound on cool edit pro...

Thanks in advance....

It doesn't come from 'settings' in some program - It comes from the right gear, experience, an acoustically viable space and time.

Thanks... I'm planning to buy a M-audio pro tools vocal studio microphone and a M-audio pro tools recording studio, and for the space, I'm thinking of using our little walk in closet, would that be okay?

Closets are about as bad as you can get.

A good way to learn is take what you've already aquired from your research and produce something. Then post it for people to listen and they can point out your strengths and shortcomings.

Do you realise that what you are asking is a bit like saying: "I've watched Emergency Room heaps of times on TV, I've got a doctor's bag, and now I want to operate in a theatre like the specialists"?

There is a whole mess of learning you need to do. There is no 'paint-by-numbers' option for recording.

But if you persevere, experience and knowledge will take you along the road to 'studio quality' . . . eventually.

About four years ago when my older son was 4, he expressed an interest in playing football and my wife booked him on this session that easter holiday and she hadn't really read the ad properly because when I took him there, all the kids were aged 8-16. Well, he did all the excercises with them but when it came to actually playing, he was hopelessly out of his depth and when I was taking him home, he was most upset. "I want to be a great footballer !" he said a number of times. I explained to him a number of times that it wasn't going to come to him overnight, that he'd have to practice, much of it on his own, controlling the ball, becoming as good with his left foot as with his right, learning to head the ball, tackle, develop stamina and a fearsomely hard shot, play in ridiculously hot climes, rain, wind, snow, ice, learn how to play hard but fair and take care of himself and not get hurt etc, etc and I told him this could take years and that he should concentrate on just enjoying the game because with patience and love of what he was doing, it would come, it had done for me. "I don't care about any of that" he said. "I want to be a great footballer NOW!"

The stairway to the stars is indeed a steep one and despite the fact that technology has made things so much easier than 50, 40, 30, even 10 years ago, basic foundations still apply. You'll never be able to cook tasty meals unless you learn, practice, apply and persevere. Despite what those 'instant gourmet' sachets tell you.
Recording is pretty much the same.

thanks guys... i'll try to practice and when I came up with 1, I'll post it here so you guys can give comments on how can I improve..

thanks...
