Guys im getting a condensor to go along with my shure 57, probably a Studio projects b-1. I feel like an idiotu, but 1, will the
b-1 work for a live performace through a normal guitar like amp? and 2 would it hurt the mic doing such a thing, even if a preamp was used first.

Thanks, gotta get my first dumb a$$ questions out of the way.

no, that's a really bad idea.

but you arn't going to hurt the mic by doing it.

it's going to sound pretty crummy probably...but the thing to remember about condensors is that they are much more sensitive...so you are going to be picking up a lot of stage noise etc other than just your vocalist.

an sm57(58) will work much better for a live mic. In my opinion a 30 dollar dynamic from radioshack would probably work better for a live mic - assuming its like typical rock or pop music.

The only case where the B-1 could work well would be if it was a very subtle genre like jazz...at a jazz club or something, but thats not the image i am getting here.

of course, there is also the matter of dragging the condensor around to gigs and on stage etc. as it is going to be more suceptable to breakage than one of those shures.

B-1 is a nice mic, i wouldn't do it. And, the results won't be anything special. just my 2 cents.

Thanks wes, I was thinking along the same lines..........My point was really just that I dont have my DAW yet, and I am getting the b-1 soon, and I knew the day it comes in i would want to plug it in to something to check it out, but I didnt know if I would be damaging it or not.

Thanks
