i've only got a basic grasp on the studio thing even though i'm very audio-perceptive and picky, as well as pretty slick on a computer. but apart from a studio experience where my crappy band was ripped for quality at someone elses home studio, i am confused as to what a good home studio requires. i'll start by saying i am into recording directly on to my computer and mixing from that, and then i'll let you fill the blanks.
say i'm wanting to record a 5 piece band which consists of vocals, guitar/back vocals, guitar, bass, drums. how would i go about this and what equipment would i require (all instruments and amplification aside)? in what order would i record, what would have the best outcome: record everything together (possibly lay vocals down after), or do practically everything seperately? what kind of area would i have to designate for recording purposes? please point me in the right direction, taking into account a budget and little experience with such.
