So here's the deal, I've been teaching myself bass through playing with other musicians for about four years and have been progressing pretty fast (or so I'm told). I've been playing with one guitarist in particular for the majority of the time and when we play together...I don't even know how to describe it, we just vibe completely and it leads to some really heady stuff. Anyways, I'm at a point where I want to get some of the stuff we're working on recorded and the idea of going into a studio for 7 hours for a couple days and having somebody else mix my music isn't especially appealing to me. So, since I've been a closet computer nerd my whole life I decided to see if I could jerry rig something up with my computer, which is how I stumbled on this site.
What do I need to do to get started recording from my computer
My computer's running a Pentium 4/2.4 GHz processor with a Gig of RAM, Windows XP Home, and plenty of hard drive room to spare. I have music equipment (amps, instruments, microphones) but no PA and no mixing board. I've been meaning to get a good sound card, right now I'm going through the integrated motherboard one. Where do I start?
