Okay, well I have Homestudio 2.0, and I have no idea really how to use it, since i just got it a while ago from a friend and other than the help it comes with in the program, i have no way of learning how to use the program. Now, i have a record player, and I want to record my vinyl to my computer, which i don't envision being too difficult, I just need to know how to do it. My setup right now is turntable --> amplifier --> E-mu 0404 sound card. I have it plugged into the 1/4" L/R ins with some RCA to 1/4" adapters. I know my computer is getting the signal, since the E-mu software can read it, i just don't know how to get Cakewalk to see it so I can record it.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

From a friend? Why don't you ask your friend?

Visited him from out of town, and he doesn't know how to use it either... he passed it along to me

Well, you need to config your Cakewalk to use your E-mu audio I/O. Pull down the Options-->Audio menu. Set the driver, run the wave profiler, restart Cakewalk. Then insert blank audio track, and set it's input / output. Hit Arm, and take a short record. If you notice that the audio is too low or high (distorted), then you need to increase / decrease the level on your amp...

Wait..., amp?

No no... You don't need amp to record from turntable! Just plug it's audio out to soundcard's audio in. Adjust the level, and that's it! :)

More detail is on the manual. It's explained there pretty well.

Sweet, I figured it out! While recording, it timed out once or twice, but overall it seemed to work well... thank you!

Any idea why it would be timing out?

thanks!

What do you mean by "timed out"? I'm not familiar with that error in HS. Do you mean "audio drop out"?

While you're at it, tell us about your set up and details about the PC.

It could be latency or delay timing...

Go options-->Audio. Use WDM/KS or ASIO driver instead of Windows' native MME driver. You need to restart Cakewalk then.

Jaymz, I think he does actually. Unless it's a newer one, turntables require a specialized preamp. Mine also requires a ground screw. When I plugged mine directly into my Delta1010 it sounded terrible. I used an old Epicure stereo preamp first and that fixed it right up.

I thought he said amplifier... :)

Preamp is different story, my friend...
