Hey guys I am brand new to recording and just need to know a couple things..
Ive been playing bass and guitar for about 6 and a half years and drums for about 5 years. I like to play all types of Metal, Core, Melodic, Progressive, Djent, basically anything along those lines. I'm a good musician and i just feel like its time to learn the recording, mixing and mastering side of music..

So i guess id just like to know from people with experience what i would need to get going. I recently moved and had to sell all my equipment so now all i have is my 7 string and a noise gate/suppressor pedal.. (LOL)

I have a good paying job and I'm looking to get good equipment to start off with, mostly for guitar right now i guess.. so for starters i would just need to know what kind of computer i should get, what programs i should download, what mics, what devices, etc.. I'm starting from scratch and would like to record some good metal, help me out guys!

Bands id like to sound like recording wise: Born of Osiris, As Blood Runs Black, Attila, Chelsea Grin, Whitechaple, August Burns Red, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Dahlia Murder, Faceless, Like Moths To Flames, Suicide Silence, Volumes, Periphery, After the burial, Winds of Plague, Etc...

I think these days any good PC will do ok for you and also, my recommendation here is to buy a nice sound interface like m-audio fast track pro which I own and have had great results so far. Also, the interface comes with a DAW like Ableton Live Lite which is more than enough to record your tracks.

If you also sing, then the Shure sm58 is a good option.

thanks man i figured i would get the Interface, just wanted to know if there was one "more suited" for different types of genres of music but yeah i think I'm going to get the m-audio FTP. I hate sounding stupid but whats a DAW? haha

and yeah i had a sm58 before i sold it but i used it to put together scratch tracks with my guitar. do you know if there is one better suited for screaming? i don't think ill be recording much singing..

DAW = Digital Audio Workstation - in other words, the software you are using to record. Read the Noobies FAQ thread and the Introduction to Computer Recording thread before buying anything!

Oh ok i was going to but i dont know i was just too lazy haha. but yeah i just really want to know about how to record my style of music, like Metal and hardcore, then ill progress onto more genres.
