I apologize if this has been covered a thousand times before, I'm new here.

My specs:

ESS Allegro Soundcard
P3 1.0 GhZ
40 gig HD
80 gig 7200 HD
$20 Computer mic

(obviously I am not done putting together my system)

Okay, so I'm running Win XP and Logic Platinum 5. I also have Cubase SX and Cool Edit Pro. When recording in either Logic or Cubase, I get a huge delay when recording. But, in Cool Edit Pro, everything is just dandy and fine. No delay at all. Is this related to my crappy sound card? If I get a Delta or a MOTU sound card will this stuff be fixed?

Please help!

Well, I'd hafta say that the delay probem you're having is probably within the way Logic or Cubase is configured (or the way it's communicating with your sound card). I'd say your next three purchases should be a decent sound card, a decent mic, and a mic preamp or mixer.

If you're using Logic, you can go to Guitar Center and get a Emagic Audiowerk 2 card for 30 bucks. It's 16 bit (or 18 bit digital), but it's designed for recording with Logic, and the D/A converters are great for the price. If you're leaning towards Cubase, I'd look into a Delta card.

So, to answer your question ...probably. Getting a new sound card will force you to reconfigure your software, which will probably lead to a correction of your problem.

dep,

Don't get me wrong here but a quick estimate reveals that you have around $2000 worth of software and about a $600 computer.

Did you actually buy these products that you are listing? If you actually purchased Logic Platinum 5 and Cubase SX, you would also know that a $3 soundcard does not compute here.

Your dealer should have at least asked you what type of card you intend to use with these products and make any suggestions to ensure proper operation.

This does not make any sense to me.
