newbie has question?????

greetings to all fellow electron masters,
it really comes down to 1 question.
what i the best sound card to record a band(4 piece wit vox} in a studio enviorment with a reasonable computer(500mgz-1.5gighrz)
with a reasonable budget???l (lol) under 1.5 mil) im no guru ,but i believe there is a setup out there that can do what i want. simpl to run, great sound , flexable i/o.under $600). i've seen cakewalks. i've seen pro tools. any suggestions or examples or ideas would be inspireing,dissected, tested.feel free to include any spec.s or needed information.

Ah...the old "which soundcard" question!

With a $600 budget, you have LOTS of options.
Do a search of the forum.


Realistically, you could get a good card (M-Audio, maybe) and some software for your budget.

My 2cents...you should buy an Aardvark 24/96 :D
But that would leave you little cash for software, which it seems you might not have.

Which brings me to this point, you mention "Protools" and "Sonar" in your question about "soundcards." These are computer programs...software for recording, not soundcards. Maybe you're getting confused because there are hardware components to compliment Protools. They're both good stuff...but you'd still need a soundcard if you bought them.

Go for audiophile 2496 and some cakewalk software, You are set for way less than $600. They both are very reliable.

Most of the high end sound cards come with recording software. Aardvark 24/96 comes bundled with Cakewalk Pro-Audio 9.

Not anymore. Now it comes with Magix Audio Studio 7.
It'll work for the time being, but it's NOTHING like a Cakewalk product!
 
Are you talking recording a 4 piece band with a live drum set? Think you'd need a 10 input and a mixer that has either direct outs or at least 10 mic pres with inserts. Might be able to get someting in that ball park.

How about a Behringer UB2442FX, then an M-audio 1010 lt? Then you'd have to get all the wires for it but I think you could get everything for under $700

Wow. That totally sucks. Good thing I went with RME instead, which came with Samplitude 6, also an asskicking piece of software.

Well I already had Sonar 2.2xl, so I'm not too bothered myself. I got the Aardvark for the card, not the software. Plus, with shopping around, I got a good deal on it. Still, for most Joes, the Cakewalk would be better.
 
Electron masters eh? That reminds me of some funny anti-war protest video I saw online where some dumb wench says she is a "militant nutball". I don't know where I get these crazy relations...

I recommend the M-Audio Delta 44 for your soundcard.
