Hello all,
First post in this forum.

I am trying to decide which format of recording at home I should be going with and as part of that have got a demo version of cubase sx.

I am running it on athlon 2.6, 512 ram, audigy 2 card asio drivers. My (first of many) problems is a stuttering and time shift when I play back a midi track.

I create a track and play it and its fine. If I stop it then play it again it stutters , the timing goes all over the place but if I leave it looping it eventually "warms up" and works ok again. If I stop it again this process repeats.

asio buffer set at 50 but tried moving up & down but no difference.

any clues

Thanks - ae

I don't know about cubase specifically, but most recording sw demos don't allow you to save a project. Maybe the stuttering is due to use of a demo version.

thanks for your comment. Just as a follow up when I load cubase it gives a message about a sampleclock. I assumed this was just something missing in the demo but maybe not. I spent last night looking where any sttings might be for this but could not find anything. I swapped all the asio drivers around from within cubase, it asked to test the drivers, this worked ok then the stutters stopped.

But when i reloaded cubase to see if the fix was permanent it failed again.

Any views

Thanks

I think I have fixed it. Found the sync menu in cubase last night with loads of options about midi ins outs, MTC etc. Didn't have a clue but highlighted my sound card and ticked a few other boxes and it works. Rebooted cubase and the sample clock error message gone.

Its all a mystery to me. Im a guitarist wanting to just record some stuff, not sure I can put up with this seemingly continual tinkering with computers. Might buy the Yamaha aw16 afterall

Thanks for all the advice I have found elsewhere on this board
