Brand new to the site, so I'm wondering:
I have a (older) Compaq Presario R3000 (Celeron processor 2.8Ghz, 1.18 gig RAM) PC (don't know about sound card)...with this set-up, what is the best simple interface to use given I'd like to record guitar, bass and vocals (preferably all through a mike since cable connections seem noisy)?
Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

How many instruments/mics do you want to record at one time? What's your budget? Do you have mics/cables/stands/headphones/monitors already?

I'd settle for doing one at a time, starting with acoustic guitar only and once I've come up with a system that works, would do more complex things and add bass, electric guitar, vocals etc....

Again, what's your budget and what other equipment do you have?
You need mic/cable/stand and interface to start out with, but will quickly want headphones (for listening to previously-recorded tracks while you lay down more tracks) and monitors (computer speakers suck).

I would advise to start with at least a 2-channel interface, like the M Audio Fast Track Pro or Focusrite Saffire.

Again, what's your budget and what other equipment do you have?

Yup. We need more information from you. Also what DAW are you going to be using (not that it is as big as of deal these days, just curious)?
