As my username suggests, I'm a complete newb, so I'm looking for something to jump into what I want to do. Basically all I'm looking to do right now is mess around with a midi controller, (which I plan to buy), and some soft synths. I'm not really looking to record instruments/vocals right now, but would like to sometime in the future.
I'm thinking about one of these 2 sound cards from Emu, and was wondering what you guys think in reference to what my needs are. I figure when I really want to get into recording instruments I'll probably just buy a mixer, but I still want a card that will work well with soft synths (as for those, I'm looking at Project 5 and Reason).
Here are the cards I'm considering:
Emu 1820
Emu 1820M
Any suggestions or recommendations? Should I avoid Creative Labs sound cards, or are their Emu cards okay?
