Hi I am just starting out and have a turntable and some studio monitors...the monitors are powered looking for a mixer or phono pre amp to power the turntable just not sure what I need..or maybe I need both? The mixer would need xlr outputs with a phono input...any help? Thanks in advance!

Tell us what you are wanting to do. From your post is seems like you are starting by just wanting to play vinyl on a turntable and getting the sound out of your powered monitors? In any case you need either a Phono pre-amp or a mixer that has Phono-inputs. There is equalization that occurs in a phono pre-amp in an effort to get the frequency response of the system close(r) to flat. Playing vinyl back without that sounds poorly.

This..Soundcraft - [Products]

Would suit you sir,IF you could find one! (or its lil' brother the Compact 4)
Mackie produce "disco" mixers with RIAA inputs as do Allen and Heath but the latter are Broadcast units and very pricey.

You have bought "studio" monitors so presumably you intend to do some form of recording? If all you need is to "sample" records you could simply use any 1/2 decent hi-fi amplifier and come out of the tape out RCAs. I am guessing the monitors are fitted with XLR balanced inputs? No matter, they will work I am sure with adapted leads..But we NEED THE FEKKIN MODEL NUMBER!

The H.F. amp has the further advantage of a "PFL" headphone facility. Should you want to record the discs to computer you really need nothing more exotic than the Behringer UCA202 interface but I suspect you have other, higher aspirations?

More info please friend.

Dave.
