So far Ive bought an M-audio Fast track pro interface, studio projects b1 mic, mic stand, cables, and pop filter.. and will soon be getting monitors. Im going with audacity right now for my DAW. I have everything hooked up right and plugged in. The interface is connected to my computer and on, and mic and headphones are plugged in. But now I cant figure out what to do next!! I am not getting any sound from my headphones or from the mic.. Someone please give me a hand here. Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

I don't have Audacity in front of me and I don't use it much, but you'll need it to speak to your interface, assuming you have a signal going through OK.

So you need to "arm" the track so it knows where to look for a signal, it won't do it automatically - should be covered in the basic Audacity manual. I suggest you look there if an expert doesn't jump in and help you in the next little while.

Good luck..:laughings:

this comes up all the time in the audacity forums. Go there and you will either find the answer in a recent message or ask yours and someone will tell you exactly what to do.

When you ask tell them the pc and operating system, what sound card you are using, and all the options you have set in the opsys sound control page, the sound card control page, and in audacity. How does the sound card connnect? USB requires specific settings while an internal card may work with the defaults okay.

I suspect the problem is in your pc settings and not audacity. Audacity just uses the pc capability so you have to get the pc to see your sound card before you can do anything else.

Audacity wont let me select an input source.. The box to select it is greyed out.. does this mean that I do not have a signal?
