we saw them in Greensboro nc on the opener then had real good seats in charlotte and they cancelled along with 2 dates in S.C.

Eddie is a has been who cannot face the fact that his bag of tricks got old after the second album. His ego is waaay bigger than his fame ever was.

I dont even care if VH breaks up anymore, theyre all in the past. I'm looking forward to the future, and praying that someday velvet revolver will play in winnipeg.

Oh, come on... give the guy his credit..... he was THE rock influence of the late 70/80s... His bag of tricks was larger than the 1st 2 albums...

That's a fact in my opinion!!!

granted he's done things that i don't agree with but who among us doesn't want his art or songs to be the way he wants them, and if he loses fan base doing his thing so be it ...he uses his song to promote soft drinks and he's a sell out, goes his own way and he's a jerk ,the guy can't win ...my big problem with him was (and i paid it) was the ticket price 90$s was too high for a comeback eagles i can maybe see but the crossed so many areas with thier music VH were more secluded if you will ...they cancelled 3 shows in th carolinas for ticket sales they want say that but thats why 50$s and they woulda been killing on the attendance :(

Your talking about a guy that revolutionized the way the guitar was played... he can be compaired to (Page, Hendrix, Vaughan).

He's a killer guitar player... many would give their left nut to be able to play even a 1/16th as good.

EVH is one of a handfull of guitar players that changed the way the guitar was played. The other references to Page, Hendrix, Vaughan are compariable peers.

I don't believe his talent level has changed much in the decades since he began. However the music scene has changed consierably since the VH hay days of the 80s and their overall sound is still similar. That's a much harder sell in today's music world.

his problem...

true about the hard sell,i think they should have did a whole album rather than package up 3 new songs with a dbl cd of old stuff most of which was on the first best of ....his problem though is he didn't go down in a plane crash or off himself with a drug concoction...he did have the alcohol problem but even Ozzie said suicide is slow with liquor

I agree that Eddie was both innovative and influencial and deserves to be classified in the same ranks as Page, Clapton, Hendrix, Vaughan, etc.

Unfortunately, given that the band got locked in as a basic 80's "hair band" (although they started in the mid late 70's) the music became dated and the band was never able to break the mold (even when Eddie tried to add synth to the band - it was still an 80's thing)

I've always felt they were best when Roth was in the band - simply because he seemed to add some attitude.

It's a shame Eddie could not go the solo route like Vai, Johnson, etc - but he is the band.

I saw them over a week ago in spokane, wa. three guys put on a good show. Eddy made an absolute fool of himself. It was obvious he was on some form of dope, the guitar solo was painful to watch, painful to hear. It was 1 minute eddy van halen, 15 minutes some embarassing stoned guy.

this man is a legend in his time, and should remember that. I spent the preshow weeks bragging to my two sons (one drummer, one bass player) how great they were. And it was a total let down when EVH would mess up during his solo, multiple times, and stumble to the mike, (it would slap him in the face) and he would curse and start over and slur things like, " I dont know what the **** im doing here"

 My kids kept saying, what is he saying? is he on drugs? ...

I have turned some of the crap into cream, though. this was a good lesson for kids on money and drugs. And if my kids dont remeber the show as, "wow i saw Eddy VH", they may remember it; "I was there when EVH hit the dirt"

Eddie- remember who you are...man!

Well, it looks like this post went from a little recent news about VH to a full blown... why I (Like/Dislike) EVH. So I guess I'll put in my two cents.

I like the way he plays. Of course most of it's dated, it was written/played 20+ years ago. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the man has a style and ability to play rock and roll in a way others weren't at that time. And even if you are one of those that seem to have a chip on your shoulder and/or want to discount his music I can only say... I'll bet there was at least one riff that when you heard it for the first time you just sat there smiling and thinking to yourself, Wow! And if not, well I guess that just means I'm a little different. Don't hate me for it.

I still like vh music, even if some people think it sounds dated.
still like miles davis too.

don't all the 'great" guitar players still sound pretty much the same as they did when they first hit the scene?

Maybe this will prompt a list, but I can't think of one player that sounds RADICALLY different and updated from when I first heard their stuff.
