new user tascam 644

i was wondering if someone could tell me the basics of inputing a guitar preamp on ch1.im going to order a manual i would like to make sure everything works on my 644 before then im pressing record and the tape stops right away..line input ch1 and im getting no sound.im connected from the moniter outs to monitors,thanks

Not sure if anyone here has worked with the 644 and this seems to be a slow season for many forums. Spring has sprung... the begeen has begun! We're actually getting outside 'n stuff.

So when you press record it starts and then stops right away? What kind of tape are you using, and is the tape new or old? Any other observations... sights, sounds, smells, when you power it up?
