Recently I picked up a pretty decent Ludwig kit, hardly played...now its been my turn to hardly play it, so its kinda dusty after 3 months. Whats the best stuff to use to clean it with? Water, Vinnegar, Windex, Spit, or is there something better ?:D...Thanks

What's the covering material?

I would normally suggest pledge or some other furniture cleaner, but make sure it doesn't leave an oily finish on the drums.
and use a soft cloth, such as a cloth diaper (sorry, no huggies here! hahaha)

covering material?

not sure as to what you are referring to there, they're shiny black drums...its an Accent kit...

cleaning

There's a couple different ways you can do this, I believe the " black shinny " drums is a wrapped finish.

Id just take a cotton cloth, get it a little damp and whipe it down. Then dry it, should be as good as new. BUT. If you really wanna clean it up, pull off the rims, the heads, then take off the lugs and really give it a good one, just dont get water on the inside of the shell obviously, and make sure as to not use to much water on the outside, get some mystery oil and soak the lugs and such in it over night then whipe the excess off and assemble the drums again, should be lubed and ready to jam. Dont use any bullshit like furniture wax or pledge, or dish washing soap, it's horrid on a drum finish.

If your drums are laquer and the black shinny finish u describe is " piano black" there is a mild laquer cleaner will do.

I can show u a link if u need it. Its like 3 bucks for a bottle.

(ps chrome polish rules on rims and lugs)

As a drumbuilder, I have always suggested pledge or something of that nature; of course, I never wrapped any of the drums I've built.

site?

do you have a site? and do you custom build?

Id like to check it out if you do, i was always told not to. I never have, i thought it would be too oily for the laquer or stained finish, especially when hand rubbed.

to pledge or not to pledge

interesting lol...I think for all purposes here Ill just do the damp cloth, maybe a weeeeee bit o light pledging, altho maybe I should be more concerned about the addictive properties of pledge...hehe thanks guys ;)

No, I don't have a site. I haven't built anything in a while.

I have a few pic's of my own kit online. (two 28" Kicks, 15" rack, and 18" & 20" Floors, and 11 Paiste cymbals.)
Here's two

I would just use pledge SPARINGLY...you don't want to really coat it in it.

AndI would NOT use it for cleaning a wrapped drum. you can but a cleaner at the store if you want for that, but I would suggest something very light....and a damp cloth probably is all that you need. Sometimes, if you need to get the bargunk (smoke, anything that may have gotten on them in a bar...then, yes I would suggest using a mild soap mixture on them.)

upon further investigation...

..I have discovered that they are finished in whats called 'PVC plastic wrap'...nothing fancy for sure...3 wraps too.

It's always good to be able to hear from those who know what they are doing, thanks guys. I pledge my allegance :D
