New tuners for acoustic

I want to replace the tuners on my acoustic.

I want to get some classical ones, the ones you find on classical/nylon guitars.

I know the two work differently, but do they make any for steel strings that still look like the ones on classical guitars? And does anyone know of good ones?

I'm gonna take it to a shop and have someone put them on there for me because I don't know how.

I just think it would look nice.

I'm afraid I don't get what you are asking.

Are you looking for open backed gears? That can be done, but I don't recomend it because, except for the Waverleys (which are very expensive) they mostly suck.

Are you looking for a gear with a the big plastic shaft? You don't want that for a steel string because the strings would ruin the plastic shafts (they are not designed for steel strings).

Or are you looking to go from a plank head to a slot head? That just won't work. Pegheads need to be designed for one or the other.

The real question is; why do you want to change them?

There's an example of the kind I want (but made for steel strings).

Just want something other than the standard ones on most guitars.

I just looked at the Waverly ones and they're like up to $300! wtf

I just want some that look nice with the gears exposed. I guess this is what you meant by open-backed.

So are there no good alternatives to Waverly's? :/

No, there really isn't, but gears like that aren't going to work on most steel string guitars. The spacing on a set of Three-on-a-plate gears will not line up on most steel strings. There are single open back gears, but again, with the exception of the Waverleys, I wouldn't recomend them.

I'm afraid this one isn't going to work out for you. Sorry.
