I wrote this for my friend Terry, he's in the Air Force stationed in Alaska. Maybe this will cheer him up. It is just a draft. It was written starting at 11:30pm and posted on sound click at 4am. It's just a drum loop, an acoustic guitar, and my sickly flat voice. Currently I am sick, it's cold outside, and I have'nt been able to write shit lately so this was something fun to do. It's pretty generic but I will work on it after hearing any comments. Enough excuses, heres the link.

It's a catchy tune, real nice playing. I guess there is no bass? It would have really added to this, but nice overall. I can't comment on the mix because of my pc speakers, but it sounded balanced to me.
Nice work.

Catchy? are u shittin me man? lol. No bass, I left my only instrument cable at a friends house a few days ago. Gotta go get that damn thing. thanks for the comments rockett

No, I wasn't shittin' you! And you're welcome...

And go get that cable (on the way, stop at the music store and get a few more... you can never have to many of them....) :D

Dude you crack me up!!!

Dude thats the funniest shit I've heard in awhile. Get yourself a fat girl and hold on TIGHT! She'll keep ya warm LMAO! Maybe its the speakers I'm using as well but it sounds muffled like it was done in a bathroom. lol Dude this song is crackin me up. Eskimo Joe has real good blow....ahem ahem SNOW! LMAO! Dude you should be a comedian. Can't wait to hear ya with the rest of the things you plan on getting. I would think another mic might give some life. GREAT JOB! YOU FUNNY BASTARD! *edit* Just thought of something have you done all your recordings live (all at once)? Maybe try and track each part. Grr I can't wait to record again!!! GL,HF.

I recorded the tracks one at a time but yea, it does sound like they were recorded all at once. I'm thinking that using the same mic for everything has something to do with it. Maybe I need eq each track a bit? I'm not sure, any suggestions? I'm thinking the muffled voice is from being sick or do you mean the recording is muffled overall? If it's the recording overall, any advice there? Thanks for the comments, it was fun to do. I've never tried anything like this, goofy stuff I mean.

What equipmet

What equipment do you use to record?

I have the same problem with only one mic, so what I do is eq the acoustics a bit differently, pan them hard, and try to play the chords in different positions when I record. I use different amps when I record my electric guitars (right now, most of my guitars are in storage, and I only have one electric with me here in Japan. Wife won't let me buy any more because I already have 4 electric guitars).

I'm not sure why that tune turned out the way it did. Could be that is was slapped together in 4 hours, the crappy room, cheap mic, onboard sound, bad mic placement, etc. What do you think? I know my voice is muffled as hell due to being sick, but I'm thinking something else is at play also. The equipment I have is listed on this page toward the bottom:

I think you nailed most of the problems. Really, it doesn't sound too bad, it's a matter of learning to mix, which is something we all have to practice at for awhile to get good.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but listen to what I did with far less gear:

Listen to "Such a Shame"....

your acoustic guitar and drums sound much better than mine, :)
Thanks. The acoustic is double tracked in software, and I added a 10ms delay to it. The drums were my Yamaha keyboard, with a shitload of playing around to get the sound right (compression, eq....).
I recorded it with an Audio Technica Pro 100 mic. I have only seen these sold here in Japan. The AT website doesn't even list them, so they may be made by someone else and just have the AT sticker on them. I can't be sure, but it cost $80.00 US... I just DI'd it into my MR-8.
I'm glad that you liked it...

This is too cool, Im laughing my ass off. I was stationed there and ended up staying there after I got out of the Air Force for a total of 12yrs. I loved it and dude this song is cracking me up. Your friend is going to love this. Is he in Anchorage or Fairbanks. uuuummmmm snow lol.

Anchorage, poor bastard. He always says, stuff like......"the Northern Lights, you'll never see anything like it". But then he breaks down and says, "I can't wait to get outta this fucking place". I know he hates it there. I've been in a serious writing rut, so this was something different to do and maybe it will cheer him up. Thanks for the comments.

My cousin went up there to work in the canneries. He lasted about a month and came home. He was bored out of his skull, and that was when pot was legal.... go figure!

I spent like a year hunting wolverines in Alaska, I killed like 50 of 'em.

Your song was pretty gull-durned hilarious...
