The second lead riff was tighter than the first.

But damn- overall the sound is just MUCH nicer than anything I've heard from you.

Didja go on a mic/pre buying binge? Or just get better at mic placement?

I agree with drstawl, this is by far the best recording I've heard from you.

The vocals have a certain kind of phat that I like. The singing is also on point.

It needs some kind of ambience man.

Same equipment.

The differences, I think, besides just experience, are

(1) My "studio" is a small office which adjoins a larger living room. I used to record facing out into the living room. This time I tried shutting the doors and recording in the small room. I think this gave me cleaner acoustics.

(2) I've working on my live sound, dealing with mixers, speakers and the like. The recording experience is good for it and vice versa.

I'm from Strong Island N.Y. also. Pretty cool tune. It sounded good over here. I am filled with strange thoughts since the attack and I like to hear how other people write about it. I am working on one about it but my song seems to be coming from an angrier place. I also checked out "I hate you." That song was pretty cool but the recording was a bit rougher. I like vibe of this one a bit more. I'll check out more later.

Beautiful song Slim! You have a very nice, rich voice. I love songs with bongos in them. I couldn't download the song, so I had to stream (Hi-Fi) it which usually doesn't work too well on my 56k. But it came through nice and clear so the recording must have been superb!

Great strumming, singing, and songwriting!

Moving lyrics, but I'm not as impressed as everyone else. Your voice is very bassy and the guitar playing feels uninspired.

It's probably totally un-patriotic to not love a songs about 9/11, huh?

the room sound on the vocals, sounds good to me. The guitar is a little lacking, sonic wise, and some new strings...or whatever to bring out a little more *zing* might help. This is kinda "coffeehouse" music to me, and has that same kind of sound to me also. This actually sounds more like a mix off of the board at a live gig (and the audience is REALLY quiet ). The vocals are nice and upfront, and sung well. There are a couple minor areas, where the timing seems to struggle a tad (0:29..."and you give me that sweeeet, uncertainty....). It is on beat, to a degree, but the vocals sound forced to fit the music. I'd take a little verb on the bongos too.

It's a conga drum, not bongos, you beatniks! Actually there is some verb on it, but perhaps more would be good.

I think you are right on, Mixmr-- I did have some trouble with that part of vocal (each time), and I did debate whether to change strings (it was borderline) before recording this, although perhaps what you are also thinking is that a steel string acoustic would work better here than the nylon.

Although it is not a live recording, I do want that kind of sound. Realdigital. Partly because I use these recordings as demos, and people want to know what I actually sound like.

I can't criticize the recording. Sounds like it was tracked pretty well. Personally, I would've liked a little more verb on everything. Just to impart a little "mood" you know what I mean?

Thanks TR. I've been going very light on the verb lately; I'm afraid it'll wash stuff out too much. I'm using freeverb now which I think is a good program but is very limited. Here, there is a little on the vocal and conga and that's it.

It's easy to go too far with verb, that's for sure. Nothing makes a recording sound amaturish(sp?) faster than washing it with too much reverb.
