New Tune for critique

dragonworks,

Great tune!

I really like the mood and groove of this! It kind of has a halloween feel to it and that's pretty fitting for this time of year.

Mix-wise, there seems to be a bit of phasing in the drums and in the overall mix in spots. Was there a transfer issue from a tape deck that wasn't aligned properly or perhaps a miking issue with the kit?

The drums as well seem to need some dynamics control in that some hits seem to jump out of place in the mix.

The vocal was great! I really liked your singing in this and could make out all the words without straining. Good job there!

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers! :)

Lesson #1: Enable downloads for all users (it's currently set to members only download). Streaming doesn't always work, and not everyone is signed up there.

If you're worried about people "stealing your tune", I got news for ya buddy: unless you're making a living off your CD sales you don't have enough people "stealing your music".

Anybody can download it now.
I didnt record it, a friend did, its a rough draft and I aint no pro anyway.

Okay, got it. This is the one I was hoping it was, always loved this tune. Pretty good recording... but this isn't home-recorded is it? Anyway, I've got it up on Kazza now :D.

Very cool tune man.....

I dig the guitar work...
recording wise the drums sound a bit back in the mix...
Vox is good....who's singing? :D

very cool man,
Joe

Excellent recording and tune. That main guitar riff is coooooooool man.Vocals sound really good.I kept waiting for a ripping guitar solo but it never happened!

Did you write this? That has to be a real drummer.I dig this man.

Its a home recording. Iwrote it. Me singing and playing guitar. Jimmy Eppard on bass, Craig McCornoch on keys and Ed I dont even know his last name on drums.
I very rarely put solos in my tunes, just a waste of time and an ego jerk off.

not sure which song you were referring too , so i'm listening to both of them. Dance the hours away first.....great song. It has a great melody. band is nice and tight. good singing. The mix sounds well balanced to me. i have sone tone issues though.....not sure i like the piano sound on the left....the whole mix sounds like it was recorded with a blanket over the mic. Overall , a nice song!

Once upon a time.....the drums are sticking out a bit too much....level wise they are higher sounding than the rest of the instruments. Great vocals again....same blanket over the mic sound though.....anybody else get that impression? A great song....i think if the mix was polished up, you'd have some great tunes!! thnaks for sharing them with us!!

It seemed everyone knew which tune you wanted feedback on. I couldn't figure it out so I listened to "Once Upon A Time."

I liked the drummer's style. Some of the stuff poked through a bit too much. But I still thought it was a good part. Pretty good singing. I liked the clean guitar part - it supported the song well.

The overall level was pretty soft. I thought it needed some compression all around and a limiter on the final mix.

Some vocal syncing issues on the harmonies later in the tune.

There was a slight lack of midrange in general, so there was a little detail lacking I thought.

Dance the hours..........

Hey:

This has a nice feel to it.
Sounds like the bass player gets to have the most fun:)
The drummer is solid:)
I like the vocal, it fits the mood of the song.
Very nice work performance wise:)

Whats this BS about soloing, and I quote:
"I very rarely put solos in my tunes, just a waste of time and an ego jerk off"

I resemble that remark.......
Not everyone that solos has an ego issue:D
IMO :)

Dan

great job here, Jerry. it's your style for sure, and I like it. and recorded quite well I must say.

Dan

Dude, I don't believe that waveform on this tune - it's like somebody came along with a lawnmower upside down.

I think the vocal needs to come up a bit on this one. Either that or clarified somehow - it sounds kinda muffled.

Really nice song, and nicely done. Cool night time romantic spookaloo. You must be one of the few people in this forum who actually play in a band. LOL

OK, I take it back, but I rarely put solos in tunes.

Groovin' as solid as granite!

I listened to both - "Once Upon..." is a cool tune with a great arrangement but it seems like it might be over-compressed or something. Vocal outstanding!

"Dance..." - killer groove - I can listen to this all day. Doesn't have the same issue as "Once Upon..." How come? This one is just as clean as can be - even sounds decent on my crappy computer speakers.

But I'm with Hevy - I could handle a solo.

Ass-kickin' rhythm section - I'd love to hammer around with those cats! Again - an outstanding vocal. I'm keepin' this one fo sho!!
Thanks, folks!!

"Dance..." I love this style (juke n jive)

the bass is somewhat burried, the voxs need some "brightness" eq?

the snare (and drums overall) are very nice, good snap, and sit well in the mix

one gtr in my right speaker could be pulled back a tad (level)

"Once.." loved the drums again, as mentioned in another post, perhaps pull them back in the mix a bit

there's a scream around 1:53 loved it!

my two bits

These are just rough mixes that I doubt will ever get polished or finished. I dont record anything anymore, I baled out due to the expense, cant afford it, cant keep up with the Jones, haha.
If I ever really want to do anything I will go to a real studio.

There is absolutely no compression, EQ, or reverb on either track.

These tracks were recorded with cardboard boxes and duct and I shit you not.

PS, I hate my own voice.

Your voice is fine, but you're free to hate it all you like. See, I'm happy when somebody sings in tune, in time, and it sounds like them. That's real.

And if this is your natural live sound, it is, as they are ever so fond of saying, pretty fucking good. :D

Everyone hates his own voice - that's why we have to listen to other people's opinions! Your voice is excellent - and as Dobro said, It's in tune!! Keep 'em comin'! Gear doesn't make the groove happen - you and your band do that - and rather well!!

Good tune.....

I'm a bass player first, so I'd say turn up the bass....I wanna feel that kick drum in my chest too,

Dude, I don't believe that waveform on this tune

How do you get a picture of the waveform??? That could be a great reference tool for duplicating some mastering....I think.
