The not fountain head
Hey peeps... Made this today, with a main goal of doing some drum layering...

It's nothing special... Just me testing the drums... There are 8 or so kicks in there...

Thoughts???

Thanks for your help in The Beautiful Struggle!!!

Its an ok track but i dont think da piano fits good wit it.

yo p it sounds like you got too much layering goin g on in this one. the kick seems hollow do you have a 808 or another kick. with layering more is not always better. you can reach a point of cancellation with too much. i thing this track needs some hi hiats going steady through the track but thats just me.good effort on this one tho. experimentation is the key

Thanks 20... I was really just testin the limit of the idea... I thought about phase cancellation too...

I don't care much for the music on the track.. Just kinda filler for the drums, I guess...

Back to work.. lol

Thanks again!

Ya, you're on the right track. I like the snare roll. Nice... When the song reaches 1:48, you layered the organ. You have a high and low organ. See how it adds more body. That's what it's all about. Catching the ear. It really made me listen when you did that. Try more of it...

Like said, watch when layering, you can cancell sounds. This happens when you have instruments that sound alike. That's why I said use a kick pitched up and a lower kick. Then add an 808 under it. This won't give you cancellation problems. Good point brought up...

Wish you could have opened the tutorial. I have many kicks, but some have the low EQ almost gone. This is just to add presence and not so much bass.

Right on... Glad you like that change-up... It was one of those.. Hmm, maybe I'll copy this instrument's part to the the other track..type of things...

I know, conceptually what an 808 kick sounds like... but not completely in the know of things... Seems like FL had all that stuff... I boycotted FL after getting reason.. Might have to pick this new FL6 up to help me out with drums...

I've thought about learning how to ReWire ReBirth into my stuff... I'm pretty sure that has some good 808 action... You prolly know already.. but.. ReBirth is now a free prog.. Just d/l the ISO and burn the CD... http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ ... Any thoughts on that (ReBirth on the 808s)?

I'm worried about CPU load with ReWiring so many things... Guess I'm gonna have to master the skill of track planning... AKA knowing when to dump a drum track into wav instead of ReWiring it...

Is there an 808 kit hiding in the stock bank of Reason sounds? Seems like I have a magazine cd with some royalty free 808 stuff.. Hmm.. I'll have to look around for that stuff, when I get home...

This reminds me of the soundtrack to Napoleon Dynomite. Gosh! ... The kick sounds find, I can't tell that there's 8 layers to it, which is prob a good thing. But there's nothing really distinguishes the kick that make me wonder how u got the sound.

I think with some cheesy strings or cheesy organ on here, you could have a fat boy slim type beat. Put an obscure or soulful vocal sample, and you might have an alternative hit.
Here's what dude had to say on FutureProducers... lol..... bah... Guess he missed the "It's nothing special... Just me testing the drums"

Thanks, as usual

Ha (Juvie reference implied).... lol.. I shoulda just went to sleep earlier today..

orange - i dont like that deep ass kick. but the melody is dope. there isnt any bass.

A nice, simple beat. I like it, except for the piano intro part. For some reason it just doesn't seem to fit well, perhaps because it doesn't come at you the way you would anticipate it to. But i like it overall

I think Beats mentioned something about this earlier, but I would bring in the music changes a lot soomere that 1:48 into the track. To catch peoples ears I believe a track shopuld have changes that drop with in the first 15 seconds of the track.....I deal with artist and managers that hear a lot of treacks everyday, and they don't have patience to wait for the changes in the tracks, they want all the dynamics within the first 10-15 seconds

Ya, good point. When we send off tracks to managers and A&Rs. We make the hook come in faster. We cut the verse in half. Cause you know if they don't hear something that catches the ear in the first 15 seconds, it's NEXT!
