Hey, here is the beginning of something, can you listen to it and let me know what I can add to it. It's missing something. I tried strings, horns, and other ideas but I did not like any of them. Let me know, thanks.

Personally I would put a high pitch synth that makes a whiney sound like whaa...... and just have it sparking off waa whhaa waa .... you catch the drift homie.Try a high pitched pad if you dont feel that and make sure it goes with that main melody nice. Good Lookin though.

It also wouldn't hurt to layer that main melody to make it less stale and give the whole picture more flava. Just a southern gent givin tha dirty perspec on things. Holla back and let me know how that work for ya playboy.

Tight so far, like they said I'd put some thing high pitched in there.Maybe some keys. You gome some nice stuff man.

The intro I liked (that played throughout the track).

When you added the horns, it killed the beat....sounded off to me.

Drums are on point so leave that in there except I would add a reverse cymbal and some other random percussion like a tambourine, maybe even an 808 drop hitting randomly just for extra boost. Also throwing in some vocal effects like "Yeah" or "What?" in with the drums could amp the track up even more.

Instead of horns, I would layer a few synths and also try blending that in with a grand piano or organ (a churchy lilke organ would give nice appeal for the track IMO)

I want to also say try an distorted or overdrive guitar and blend that in with it, but that's a hit or miss option so use it sparingly lol.

Anybody else got anything to add that I might have missed?

Hope this works for you,
Fiev.

Fiev's right...

and..

Here's something I heard in your beat, that I have problems with as well..

Okay.. So you find a tight "instrumental hook" for the track. In this case, it's "the intro"... You get excited about its glamour and instantly push it to the front, HARD....

My point to make is that it doesn't need to stand out that much... If it has the "glam" then people will lean in to hear it and feel more immersed in your musical landscapes, as a result...

Here's an example:

Dr. Dre - Ackrite

On that track, the piano (or whatever it is), sits back "behind" the drums.. I could wax philosophical and say that it's a seed in the furrow...

We both need to work on coaxing the listener into the sweet spot of the song...

Keep grindin!

P.S. If you can fix that, you might not feel that it needs something else.. See, there is an absence in the compositional "sweet spot".. That doesn't mean that an "instrument", already on stage, can't take center-stage...

try putting some vocals to it and then see if you need to add anything else...

sometimes that all you need...

Best Forum

Hey guys, thanks for all the great info and help with this track. I took all of your advice and switched it up alot.

First, i took out the sax and replaced it with a grungy guitar sound, then added a whiny synth (has a west coast feel to it now) and I also added some timpani drums and a light string track.

Listen to what may be the finished track here (a short version of it)

Here is the same track with a Jay Z vocal flow to see what it sounds like.

Please give me your thoughts. After all, you guys kinda built this up so credit to all who helped me out.

If any of you guys would like to flow to this, let me know. I would like to hear something original on it.

Again, thank you to everyone who helped me out with this. If I can return the favor just ask.

real tight work..now you have a banger :two thumbs ups:

Thanks guys. It's a real hot beat now. It's funny how just a few opinions from others can open the creative gates. Thank for all the help. it's good to know there is a "REAL" forum out there, and this is it.

Now that's 100 times better mayne....sure fire banger there.

Dang. That's a hard beat. Alot of energy. I like that!

Wow man thats tuff, great job for sure. Love the new guitar that you added.....hope the synth advice helped as well.

sounds great man. im sure that should Jay-Z hear himself rapping on it, he would agree
