This is the best sound I've been able to get out of my rinky-dink, po-dunk home studio. If anyone has any recording advice for this song, I'd love to hear it.

Equipment Used:
Mackie 1202
Shure SM81
Line 6 DL4 (guitar running direct)
Delta 1010
Waves Reverb, Compression, EQ, ect...
Sonar 2.0XL
Fruity Loops (all drums except percussion)

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Nice clean mix with great lush vocals.Im diggin it man....a little bit of sibilance on the vocals but not bad....Good recording!

[edit to add]I also checked out "Samuel on the Hillside" on your website and thats another winner.I dig the thick lush vocals on it man.Has a 10cc feel to it(on the vocals) at the end....Jusumpilgrim would definetly dig that one too.

Man, this had better be great...I'm downloading it based on Kramer's comments.

This might take awhile...I'll be back.

14 hours later....

Okay, okay. I'm glad I downloaded it. Kramer used a great adjective ... "lush." Wait, don't read anything into that...Nobody's calling anybody a "lush" or anything, the RECORDING is lush. (I have to be careful, some people totally don't get me, then they start bitching and calling me names...blah, blah, blah).

So, you probably want me to talk about YOU a little bit, eh? Okay, on the downside, I think the kick drum is clipping. It's not huge, because I'm not even sure I'm hearing it, but since I'm early on this one, I thought I'd point it out to see if anybody else is getting it...doesn't start clipping immediately...but I think it does start clipping.

4 PART HARMONY FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER!!!

Nice work,
-Chris

thanks

Thanks for the positive comments. My weak voice wasn't cutting through into my Shure KSM27 vocal mic enough so I recorded vocals with my "acoustic" condenser mic, which I think worked great and helped added to that "lushness" you mentioned.

How about the drums? On first listen, could you tell that they were not recorded live? I spent quite a bit of time sequencing (by hand) fills and adjusting volumes to try to get them to sound more natural. Getting drums to sound natural on the computer is the hardest thing I've ever encountered in the recording process... one day I'd love to eliminate the need for drummers. :P

The kick drums does clip a tiny bit on my meters but I could hear it in the recording so I left it. I'll give it another listen and adjust if it's audible.

Thanks again!

Matt
