Hey Im a rapper and I am kind of new to the home studio thing.
Right now i have a Vocals mic, 4 Channel Mixer, and thats it.
I know this question is dumb but is the Mixer the same as a Pre-Amp?

Thanks!

If it has mic-level inputs, yeah.

Which mixer? Which mic?

Hey thanks,

well right now i just got some basic stuff cause im saving up for a Shure mic.
The mixer is just a basic 4-channel mixer from radio shack with the input controls,
the mic is a 40$ vocal mic also from radio shack but to me as of now has "ok" quality,

radio shack

..sigh..

Lol its all good though! What you need to get started with some bare bones recording then is an A/D converter (to get the sound into your computer), and a DAW of sorts (to actually record your audio). Also, give this a read TweakHeadz Lab Electronic Musician's Hangout. It has TOOOOOONSS of useful information that will get you started.

Hey yeah i know radio shack :P

Im checking out a music store tommorow with a $200 budget for a mic.
Hopefully they'll have some good ones haha. But i think my mixer should work,
cause ill be only recording vocals.

Thanks Man!

Please provide more information on the mixer you have. With the budget you have for a mic, you can get a adequate condenser type mic, which will require phantom power. Does you mixer provide phantom power? Is your mixer a microphone mixer?

Thats all fine and dandy, but just how do you plan on getting your vocals into your computer?
