I'm somewhat new to recording, in fact i am totally born and I would like to get into it. Problem is I don't know how. I need to know what equipment I need (besides instruments). If anyone has any ideas (I know you're out there) or can direct me to a good information site, I would appreciate it. Thanks,

Newby

oh my god, that's a huge question.

I suggest you surf around in the Newbie forum, and start reading some posts there. That's where i picked up 6 months ago...

Hmmm

Hey what's up...

I'm new to recording too...

However I created a small website with some info that I gathered when I first started. Mostly to help others here.

www.recording.s5.com

It may be a little slow, but the hosting was free. :)

Be cool. ,Jerry

Here's what I would do if I were in your situation:

Try to find a few friends/colleagues/acquaintances who have some sort of basic home recording set-up. Negotiate a deal to let them allow you to hang around and watch them and see how they use their stuff (like offer to provide the Chinese food.)

After watching a few people use various kinds of systems, as well as hearing the results, you may be able to draw some basic conclusions as to what general direction, in terms of gear, seems to appeal to you.

Then come back here with some more specific questions. The problem is, right now it's all so new you don't even know what to ask!

But it's all good - the exciting thing about being a newbie is your knowledge grows exponentially in a really short time. Good luck!:)

Welcome! Here are some things to consider...

1. Start saving $$$

2. Read as much as possible here...and then read some more. (try not to get overwhelmed w/all the info, either)

3. Don't feel like you have to keep up with the Jones'...buy stuff that fits into your budget only after you have determined that it will help YOU, not simply b/c someone says it's a must have...the only must haves are food, water, and shelter...and a guitar. :D

4. HAVE FUN!!!
