Hey Everyone, Ive been a musician for many years, and im finally going to try to get a decent small recording setup at home. I just purchased a Behringer Xenyx 1204FX mixer, and I will soon be purchasing a condenser mic. I mainly do acoustic guitar and vocals, but I would like to add some drums and electric too, but anyway, I need to know what kind of cables to buy and are there any cables that are "generic" as far as same material as the leading brand but still good quality at a cheaper price? Im a college student, so Im trying to make the most of what I can. :)

Thanks, !

Get a soldering iron and go to this site. Roll your own and save an assload of money on really good quality cables.

Ok, im totally down for making my own cables, sounds great!, but how do I know which mic cable to get.? Is it the quad? And is there a difference in the mogami and the Redco?

How far do you need to go ? Mogami is really good. But then my local music store has a house brand that is well made and inexpensive. You might check around. May be cheaper to buy allready made cables. And if you are running these cables a good distance you might check on buying a small snake.

At Max prob. 15ft. of mic cable. Its going to be a small home studio, so no large distances. Thanks for the help!

you can run xlrs (mic cables) much longer than other kinds. They have built in noise canceling in their design.

home recording studio advice needed...

I recently started a new set-up from my home. Its really remedial and doesnt have the good quality. For one, im using "audacity" recording software, which is free. In the past, i have used adobe audition and magix. I mostly need help with how to record. (ive also used cakewalk and pro-tools at a friends, i have found pro-tools to be the best, but also most expensive.)

I have a mic plugged into the mic jack of the computer through a small two channel mixer i bought. (Behringer Xenyx 802) The mic (three pronged) is plugged directly in to the mixer's first channel, and a chord is connected from the mixers earphone to the computers(PC) mic jack, due to an adapter.

I record straight into my Samson R21 (dynamic mic), and that's that.
At the moment, i record drums, guitar, and vocals. everything comes out with much hiss/distortion, but sometimes is bearable. either way, i need better techniques to record. money is somewhat of a handicap, but i am willing to spend a good amount.

thanks for your time!

i dont know,
Ask your question in a new thread in the newbie forum (which ,if you search 1st, contains the answers you need)- don't bog this one down with your requests - it's poor netiquette.

Goodoh,
I look forward to helping in anyway I can then & there...
