New to mixing Help please!!

Okay, I see alot of people posting threads like " can someone tell me settings to mix" I am not asking that at all. All I am asking is for a guideline that I could follow. I have heard the order that you put the effects in overall makes a difference. So I am asking what is your usual routine for vocal mixing?
Example:
1. Compression
2. Reverb
3. Echo

It's almost always the safe route to use corrective measures first, dynamics second, additives last (and usually on a parallel aux).

You'd EQ first, adjust dynamics after. Things like spatial or modulative effects would be on a post-fade/post-dynamics aux send.

I hope you are not putting echo on top of your reverb! Most often reverb is on its own buss (with everything sent to it)

On the other hand, putting reverb on echo is quite acceptable (and can help the echo "sink into the mix' nicely). Same 'rules' apply -- You could put a very inline with the echo on the same aux buss, or buss the echo to the same verb you're using for the vocal.

This would also create a kind of pre-delay, no? Which can be a good thing, since it allows the vocal to still stand out while the reverb starts on the first repeat of the echo.
