I was just given a Mac Performa 6400, I want to start using it to record, but I'm not sure if the computer is adequate? If it is what software will work? What kind of ports do I need to have insatlled?
Thank You for any help,
Lorie

If memory serves me right that is a 200mhz 603 PPC.

I used to run Opcode Vision 3.5 on a 160mhz 604e.
Worked great.

Hey Lorie. That mac is old, so your possibilities are limited. It doesn't have PCI or newer slots so you can't put a card in it, unless you find some pretty arcane recording device to it. However, it has a stereo audio input, so you can use it that way. Maybe you can attach a small console to it, a tape recorder with microphone inputs, etc...
Since it doesn't run macOS system 8 or 9, you're also restricted in the software. I recommend that you search around for Protools 3.4, which was a free version that runs on that machine:

Andres...
that machine will run up to OS 8.5.
I installed it on my old 160 but I ended up reverting to 8.1.
It just ran to slow.
But 8.1 moved great.

Then I'm wrong, I got the info from that page I linked. I still say that Protools 4.3 is a good alternative, it's very light on the processor and it has the Pro Tools interface which is very nice.
Did you use it to make music, Eyes?

I used to Cord.
Not any more though I wanted to buy a new mac but they were just to expensive. I still use it for graphics, got my Agfa scanner hooked on it. PC's still can't come close to the color print accuracy.

Thank you to everyone!!! It is running OS 8.1. So Pro Tools is the way to go then? I want to get all my facts straight here before talking to Salesmen that want to sell me lots of great stuff.
