I can concur with others about making sure whatever interface you get has drivers for your OS. I bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 (that's another mistake, but also another thread) and have a TASCAM US-800. TASCAM stopped supporting the US-800, and the latest drivers for it are from 2011. Now, I can still use it to record, and it is my new "sound card" for watching videos and listening to music, etc....But I have to re-start my computer about every 2-3 hours since it starts stuttering and freezing every 2-3 hours.

So, definitely, make sure you have an AI with up to date drivers for your OS.

If you're dealing with M-Audio and a Mac, why not go with the Firewire Solo. They run about $75 and have a decent pre.

I always think peeps will regret not going for two mic inputs sooner or later and remember. That interface will not work on practically any other computer you come across, e.g. mates Acer lappy.

GREAT thing about USB is that it is err,....Universal!

You will need an audio interface, I reccomend not going cheap. Wait a while and get a scarlett 2i2 or something :)

Now THAT'S good advice. I would however suggest the Steinberg UR22 over the 2i2 and the Native Instruments KA6 as the AI killer of them all sub £250 or so.
