Heyas - New here and trying to get some stuff figured out. What I want to do is hang out in my office and record myself playing guitar and singing. I would like to add some drum tracks as well and possibly some keyboard. Now, the keyboard I've got covered but, I have no skills whatsoever playing drums. I've checked out some sampling stuff on the net but there's just so much out there that it's a little overwhelming. Any, advice on the drum thing? Also, I have no recording equipment and am looking to just have fun at home with myself and a friend or two. What kind of equipment or software should I be looking at? I usually do extensive searches on a message board before I post but, in this case, I don't know enought to know what to look for. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Get a free or cheap recording program. See the link under my signiture.

Get a drum program like fruity loops

And get some monitors to mix on plan on $400 to $500 there for entry level 8 inch monitors.

Make sure the soundcard / interface as phantom power so you can use a condensor microphone for the guitar. I think fruityloops studio had audio recording capability now. So you coulpass on geting a different recording program.

This is all providing you have a decent pentium computer (not celeron).

Do research.

Welcome to the forum and the world of home recording. As you may have noticed in the previous post, recording is not a cheap thing to get into, even as a hobbie. To get a good basic idea of recording gear and what it is used for and a rough idea of the cost check out http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm . If you see something that you find interesting and think you might want to try it, come back and ask about it, someone around here has already tried it and will tell you the good or bad about it. One hint, the more specific your questions, the faster and better the responses will be.
