hey everyone thanks for taking time to help a new guy out. I'm getting a Audio Technica 4040 condenser mic and ...well i don't know how to mount it i guess is what i'm trying to ask! Do condensers just attach like dynamic mics' to a stand with a telescopic boom? thanks for any help you could give. I love this place. :D

Yea, you put it on a stand.

You know ... the thing that holds the mic. Assuming your mic comes with a shockmount, you'll want to connect that to the stand first, then slip / clamp the mic in to the shockmount.

The large diaphragm condensers I've got have a different kind of mounting hardware than most of my small dia. mic's - which just fit in a clip.

Best type is a shock mount like chessrock mentioned so the mic doesn't easily pick up floor vibrations. Some large dia. mic's come instead with simple hinged mounting hardware that attaches with a nut to the bottom of the mic. Both types of hdwr though have a threaded female connector that fits to the stand or to a boom.

Does mounting hardware come included in the price of the mic you're getting?
