After 10 years with THE STORYTELLER, 4 full length albums released, and touring with Helloween and Gamma Ray (among others), I finally have put a new band together! I've decided to call it KRYPTILLUSION which is somewhat cheesy, but it has a nostalgic value for me since I once had a band called Cryptic Illusion... so I morphed the words together, and replaced the C with a K (based on Krusty the Klown), and ended up with KRYPTILLUSION. Feel free to hate it if you want to. ;)

The music is influenced by the Gothenburg metal scene from the 1990's and early 2000's - i.e some kind of melodic death metal. To mention a couple of bands that have influenced me, it would be At The Gates and In Flames.

Anyways, I've written a bunch of songs and right now I'm in the progress of recording some decent demos. We will start tracking vocals on wednesday if everything goes as planned. HOWEVER you can listen to an instrumental pre-preview of one song if you want to. Just visit the (soon to come) website and click the center of the wheel, and the MP3 should start loading.

It is now official that Stefan Westerberg from Carnal Forge will be the drummer of the band, but I will probably stick to EZDrummer for the pre-production demos.

just a sugestion, the clicking in the centre of the wheel is not a good idea, becouse (i know i sound stupid) I couldn't figure out what to do till i read the post a bit more detaildly.

as for the songs, i would advise to be a bit more original, the guitars are good ( I like them) but the drum beat I've heards in so many other metal songs.

as far as the recording goes, it sounds awsome.

thats just my opinion

hope it helps.

p.s. I really dig the solo!

The recording is good.....seems a bit repetitive though, might be better with vocals.

Hello Nick, thank you for your post! The wheel clinging thingie might me annoying to some, but I don't want the MP3 to be easily found unless you read a forum posting from me. So I guess it serves its purpose. ;)

About originality: Well, basically you're right, and I'm aware of it. But I don't feel like being original with this band. :) The un-original drum programming can be explained by the fact that I'm a guitarist, not a drummer (even though I've programmed my share of drums through the years). I have a feeling it will sound a lot better when I record real drums for the album.

About the recording in general, and the solos: Glad you like it!!! Thanks!!!

Thanks man. I have a feeling that a lot of the repetitiveness vill disappear once we get vocals on it.

I am a huge fan of the Gothenburg scene. I think the repetitiveness can be chalked up to a convention of the style. This reminds me of At the gates alot more than In Flames. I really liked the solo. What kind of gear are you using for the guitar tones?
A little off topic but did you ever get into any Eucharist? I think their Mirror Worlds albums is probably one of the most over looked melodic death albums from the entire scene.

Are the toms causing clipping or static distortion? I'm listening through headphones and it sounded like that. Maybe it is just at certain times there is too much too loud, a mix of everything... Especially during the solo I'm hearing crackling.

Sounds big. Sounds like In Flames, Hypocrosy, Dark Tranquility... Various others I've heard in passing. All it is missing is the clean style parts that the In Flames guy sings...

Good stuff though. I think there are Vikings outside now rowing boats... :)

This is a cool sound and the recording sounds great. Good luck with the new band!

Wireneck, I remember Eucharist. I've never heard Mirrorworlds, but I do have "A Velvet Creation" stashed around the house somewhere. I haven't listened to that in years!

Hey guys, my old account died so I had to register a new one. Anyway, thank you for your comments! I have a decent line-up to present:

Fredrik Groth (The Storyteller) - band dictator, songwriter, and rhythm guitar player
Kristofer Nilsson (Undivine) - vocals
Mike Wead (King Diamond, Merciful Fate) - lead guitars
Stefan Westerberg (Carnal Forge, Asperity) - drums

Time for a bump! I have a couple of songs now, that are more or less "ready". Feel free to listen, download and spread around as you wish.
