Alright guys, look at 32-20s rep...its 3000+. I think he knows that egg cartons don't work as insulation. Some people, like Cool Cat, Edwonbass, tmix and Travis got to grips with this crazy new-fangled form of wit...some of you didn't. I found it funny because I understood the point of it. As for newbies who come in here, I think you need to offer them a little more credit in the way of common sense. I wont say any more on this issue. Take care all.

More credit in the way of common sense... just like it's common knowledge that egg cartons are good for soundproofing. As soon as you mention building a studio or recording to someone who has not read up on it, they generally tell you to collect your egg cartons. Now if a newbie hears that, and is doubtful, then comes on here and reads that it's true from someone with a reps of 3000+, they could be forgiven for believing it.TelePaul said:

The biggest problem is that what we are calling egg crate insulation is really this:
Soundproofing foam insulation
We need to be more specific about what we are talking about. Especially to newbies.

Actually, better absorption can be achieved if you Floam the inside of the crates like a little Floam embryo's waiting to bloom.
Don't forget to leave a 4" air gap behind the crates.
If you can get your hands on some memory foam from Target you can carve that up ala Auralex and treat over the top of the crates. This adds extra absorption of deep bass because the "memory" foam actually remembers what the sound waves were like before striking the foam and through the use of "memory" cells restores the original waves. Thus killing the bass entirely.

It was me who told you we were only here to help. What we is give advice, then we see how the advice has helped. We came to this thread expecting to see a "new studio", and all we got was some bullshit about stuff we've heard hundreds of times. We know the dangers and shitty acoustic properties of egg crate, and we also know that some newbies will believe anything you tell them. I know nothing about Technominds? Two weeks ago I was offering him criticism on one of his compositions in the songwriting thread. I am familiar with the recording set-up he uses. My 'shoddy' microphone comment is justified on the basis that he uses Behringer consoles and mics, and Alesis monitors. Ask around, they're hardly the rolls royce of the recording equipment world. Essentially, the reason I think he is immature and ignorant is the following phrase, taken from his website: "Citus create music for every target, from commercial ballads to funky house" Music for a target? Also, it should be pointed out that it is no longer appropriate to use the word 'funky' in any sense other than an ironic one. He takes himself too seriously. 'Zorro' studios? It's his parents fucking house, and his grandly titled 'drum room' is a garden shed.
Incidentally, his picture on his website represents the very antithesis of what musical credibility is. Androgynous features and one of those painfully self-conscious, angular, emo haircuts mark him out as a resolutely commercial artist. Some might say soulless. Others might say bland.
A post like mine can be dangerous? Who are you, the homerecording fucking police? If you're that bothered, don't insult or lecture me, you're wasting your time. Post another thread warning against egg crates if it means that much to you.
