Flypaper for freaks
Hi all,

I have just finished construction of a home studio in my garage.
I only had enough room for a single room, so I will have to roll
the control room and recording space into the single room.

the room is 12"x16", with a 12" ceiling.

One 12" wall has a 31'x81' door, and the other 12" wall has a 4"x5"
window.

I have included a simple diagram of the room below.

My question for you all is: what would be the best layout in this
room for a mixing desk, 2 monitors, keyboard rack, and effects rack?

Where would I install auralex studio foam? Bass traps?

What other advice could you give me to make this room sound the
best it can?

Thanks in advance,

Fraser

do you have paint or some kind of simple drawing program? that kind of picture would be much easer

Fraser,

> what would be the best layout in this room <

See the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

www.ethanwiner.com/articles.html

In particular, see the section Room Symmetry listed in the Table of Contents. But also read the rest of the FAQ because it explains what types of treatments and bass traps work best, and where you should put them for good results.

Ethan,

Thanks, I have perused your articles, nice stuff and thanks.

I am including a jpeg of the studio layout, and still hope for more recommendations.

Thanks in advance for all advice!

The room is 12 INCHS x 16 INCHS with a 12 INCH ceiling?

One 12" wall has a 31'x81' door,

How do you fit a 31 x 81 FOOT door into a 12" x 12" wall :p

(Just teasing you. Just so you know the inch and foot punctuation marks are backwards ) This COULD get you into trouble if you ordered something.

ok ok ok ok

I guess I am trying to build a *model* studio. Does that mean I have to pay scale?????

Fraser,

Set up so you're looking out the window at the top of the drawing. You also want to be centered left to right in the room, 38 percent of the way back from the front wall. Then follow the rest of the advice in my Acoustics FAQ I linked earlier.
