Hi This is my first post..

Here is what I have accumulated over the last couple of months.

-Akai Dps16 with ext. CD/RW drive.
-Shure PG-Drum Mic Kit (6)
-2 SM-57's
- 2 Behringer Mic2200 tube-pre

And along with this a computer with SB Audigy Platinum.

I am on a heavy budget - poor musician - and I would like some thoughts on my choices on the Akai and the Behringer tube-pre.
I was going to go for the Korg d1600 but I found the Akai for a stupid low price so I got it and its brand new.

I havent recieved the Akai and Pre yet but I am trying to set up as follows:

The Akai has only 2 powered xlr inputs but can record 8 tracks at once.

Only 2 of the Mics that I have are powered mics.

I play in a 3 piece band, Bass, drums, guitar and I want to record live all at once.

So I figured I use the 57's for the bass and guitar and run both through the pre into two of the 1/4' inputs on the akai.

I would also run the kick-mic and snare-mic through the other 2 channels of tube-pre that I have left and input them into the 1/4' inputs on the akai.

-The 2 overhead/cymbal mics I have are powered and although I would like to run them through a tube, I figured I could run those tracks through the tubes when I mixdown. Those I would plug into the remaining 1/4' inputs on the akai.

-That leaves me with 2 tom mics that I would run through the powered inputs on the akai.

-so 8 inputs, 4 through a tube-pre.

I kinda picked up that the Tube-preamps I got are cheap but I have already spent too much :)

Anybody have comments for me, and no flames plz I am new.
