Hey, I'm very new to the website and have been reading up on as much as I can at work
. I'm looking for a new set up for my studio, it's time to upgrade. I've tried several setups with beginner stuff, I used a 12 channel Behringer, really showed me the importance of quality in a recording. I am only familiar with computer based recording but am definitely open to new things
. I have no idea how ADATs work or any purely outboard based recording setup. I just ran my mixer through a soundcard into my computer and it worked pretty damn good. Now I have a pretty nice budget and I'm going for quality. My biggest concern at the moment is just the set up of the recording situation.
So here's the question... I need a recording solution. I need advice on a new mixer and other equipment needed to get it on my computer or to a harddisk of some sort(Most likely computer based unless you can convince me). I'm looking for atleast 12 mic pre-amps in the mixer and have a budget of $2000 for the mixer and anything else at the moment. I was looking at the new Mackie Onyx 1640 but found out about the EQ and insert bypass when recording with firewire (I was looking at Allen Heath or Soundcraft as alternates). However, EACH CHANNEL MUST BE RECORDED SEPARATELY. I have become very picky when mixing and mastering and would much rather prefer each channel stay its on channel in the recording mix. If anyone likes purely outboard recording, please explain! I was raised on CEP but I can change!
I'm using about 10 Shure mics at the moment, getting studio projects mic soon, I want to be able to record bands together.
Also, just for fun, name a piece of rack gear that you couldn't live without and explain why... I need ideas! Thanks!!
