Wasn't sure where to post this, but...

I have an old 70s Farfisa organ (cabinet kind with a built in amp) and it has 2 10" speakers which are probably original. The speakers tend to crackle if you move the volume pedal sometimes and so on, and was just wondering if installing some new speakers in there would improve the sound? Or if it's just a waste of time. The crackling isn't a huge issue, but I thought I'd throw that in there. Thanks.

The crackle is probably in the volume pedal, not the speakers. Get some contact cleaner or do as the pros do and work it back and forth really fast until the wiper on the potentiometer in the pedal cleans itself.

Yo Enhancement of CRASH:}

You know, I suspect you might even have a CORDOVOX in the corner of your studio.

Cordovox repair folks are rare; but they are still there. I suspect that 'somewhere' Farfisa repair experts are still there. You have to look.

You may have a simple problem or, you might have a more complex problem.

From the stomach Steinway to Electronic squeeze box to Cordovox to Synths are part of my history. I always managed to find a dude who could "fix" a problem with an item that was almost out of date, or no longer made. So, you might scout around your hometown and ask for advice.

But, I like what I read about your "possible" problems.

I've been offered almost as much as I paid for my Cordovox--guess the firing cable isn't made anymore; however, right here in my backyard, there is a dude who can fix the box of Cordovox. It's a great machine--no squeezing needed--great organ sounds via a Leslie Speaker--AND, I still have one of those.

I love old gear but new recording gear is so much better than wire recording.

Cool...I'm a little confused, are you saying Cordovox is a type of Farfisa? I know they made combo organs and accordians, but yeah... I also have like 3-4 dead keys...

:D Yo Crash-man:

Cordovox is an accordian that requires no squeezing, unless you want to.

It is an electronic stomach Steinway--it has settings and different patches, similar to the Farfisa.

Farfisa, I think, is a keyboard with settings and patches--no belly interruptions.

If I were you, I'd repair your Farfisa--it is a Vintage piece of gear.

In every town/city, you can always find someone who can fix old gear. Or, you can search the net. But, I'd be cautious about sending your gear away, unless it is a Major vendor with a reliable background: Sweetwater, Full Compass, Musician's Friend--etc.

Good luck and enjoy.

Happy 4th of July.
