Well, my desktop computer's sound card basically got fried. It was an Avance AC97, and I have no idea what that means. It's a Medion computer. I record guitar into my computer.

So I need a new soundcard. What do you recommend for recording guitar? What is the kind of stuff I need on it? Please, I really need help.

If you are just doing this for fun and to get some ideas down I would suggest taking a look at the Guitar Port. It can work as a sound card and basically gives you a guitar pod in your computer. I am not a huge fan of emulation for actual albums and such (because I have never taken time to learn it, and I just like amps and mics and all) but I bought one of these units for a buddy of mine and it is really a lot of fun for messing around and tracking simple ideas...

Get the guitar port and download Reaper and you can have some serious fun.

More traditional setup can be had with an EMU 1212 and a preamp and mic.
