I just got a emu 1212m and its not workin out with that card, so im sendin it back and get my money, It seems no one gave me to many cards to choose from last time with just $200. so ill go $300 this time. My soundblaster audigy 2 was easy to work, It had mic in, line in's and all that. The emu 1212m just had 2 inputs, AND from what i hear, it was made to record 2. They say i need that Audiodockm for the card 2 record good, BUT the sound of the emu 1212m, Just didn't suit me. Can anyone suggest another card please. One that has a mic in cuz i already got a Rode NT1a mic and a Focusrite Voicemaster pro.

Any of the M-audi cards - audiophile, delta 44, delta 66, delta1010LT.

They range in price from around $90 to $220, with 2, 4 or 8 inputs

I have an emu 0404 which cost $100.00. It has 2 analog in, 2 digital in, 2 analog out and 2 digital outs. plus midi in / out. The sound and effects are great.I assume you do'nt have a mixer, else you would'nt be worrying about mic.in. You might want to look at getting one cause sooner or later you can bet you'll need it.Rock on !

hmmm... the 1212m is generally considered to be one of the best sounding (inexpensive) cards around. Sounds the same as the 1820m which is 500 bucks and no poor performer either :-)

If you look for something that is really better sounding, I guess 300 bucks will not cut it ... The next perceivable step up would be LYNX, but then we talk 700-1000.-

I dont want to sound to depressing, but I highly doubt that you get noticably better sound from any of the above mentioned alternatives. You might want to look into used RME stuff, but again, dont expect "off-the-pants" better sound

hottsauce - with respect , pause for a moment before buying anything.
ive read a number of your posts about problems your having.
and i'm not sure that emu was the problem.
it MIGHT have been. but i'm not sure.
lets take this slowly. for example in another post you talk about the rode cutting out. have you tested it into another mixer ?
if not i would do that first. if it works fine then we know the rode does not have a fault. now plug the rode into the focusrite and i think if i remember the rite has a hphone jack. NOW do you get problems ?
if so do you have any special features of the frite enabled when you get problems ? or do the probs disappear when just using it as a plain jane
mic pre ? ie: no compression etc activated.
lets get this straight first.
just trying to help.
also poast your pc confign will you ?
all i'm trying to do in this pass is make sure the mic + frite front end is working. thanks.

Ummm

yeah i tried what u said and it still cuts out and i don't have another piece of gear to try my mic to, My computer, what do u mean? like whats in it. I have a 40g hard drive, 256 ddr memory, 2.7gh processor. Should be cool right. You don't think my focusrite preamp is messin up do u??? i mean, i take care of it, Does equipment just start messin up for no reason???

It looks like you need more RAM if you want to use your computer for music.

i really need more detail to help hs.
forget the computer for awhile. lets get the front end sorted out.
you said ...yeah i tried what u said and it still cuts out .
did you mean the mic cuts out when plugged into another mixer than the
focusrite ?
firstly i would find a friend or a local music store and take the rode around
to try in a mixer. i assume the rode needs phantom power.
so make sure this is enabled if the rode needs it.
if you find the rode works in ANOTHER MIXER.
then the probable cause is either an incorrect setting on the focusrite or
failing that the focusrite might be defective.
if the rode does not work in another mixer then its probably the rode thats
defective in some way. has it ever been dropped perhaps ?
by the way you should ensure your pc has at least 512 ram.
particularly if your running win xp.
but lets get the front end sorted out first.
get back to me after testing the rode in another mixer.
and tell me the outcome please.

I might be wrong, but doesn't the 1212M have an ADAT lightpipe input? If so, you can buy something like the behringer ultragain8000 and get 8 separate mic pre channels for like $200 and run it into the 1212M via ADAT.
