I already asked this but in the wrong forum. I have a Hoontech sound card and it has died, any recommendations for a new one?

Depends on your needs.
Do you want 2 in 2 out.
4 in 4 out
6 in 6 out
8 in 8 out
10 in 10 out
sp/dif in & out
midi in & out

Be more specific

This one has 2 in and 2 out so thats a good starter, All I really want is something that records the sound as accurately and is more reliable, price will have some bearing on it too.

Is there any reason not to get a card with a lot of channels? It seems (at least locally) that there's not that much of a price difference. I'm thinking of upgrading to. And could live with 4 inputs, so I could go with f e the Delta 44 - but it seems to me I might as well get 1010lt. Even without the breakoutbox I seem to get a lot more for my money?

Sorry for adding my own purchase into this discussion, didn't want to start a new thread when this was so close on topic.

I use the Audiotrak Inca88 and I'm very happy with it. 8 ins and 8 outs for that price can't be beat. :)

I just picked up the 1010lt- i still have the 2496 in another machine- i struggled between the 1010lt and the 44 but ultimately i was happy with the quality of the 2496 just wanted more ins- converts in the computer didnt seem to give me any trouble- 44s are outboard- and the price differnce was only like $30. well see how it goes- so far as reliable and easy as the 2496

It depends on what software you use. If you use Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 and not Sonar, those extra inputs will go to waste because HS2002 can only record from 2 inputs at any given time.

So that's the catch. I thought the breakoutbox was just a connection box. I guess The 66 and the 44 are slightly better then for someone with golden ears?
It's very likely going to be the 1010lt for me (I checked the Inca88 moskus, but I can get the 1010lt slightly cheaper).

Still stuck to my Pro Audio 9. I've tried the Sonar demos but even though I'm a software developer i have a hard time getting used to new software. Probably will go Sonar though...
Valid point, hadn't thought about it.

I take it the number of inputs/outputs has no impact, or nearly none, on the system - as long as you don't use them?
