BEAT IT!
my deluxe memory man gets a lot of use in this song. the main guitar line is pretty close to my live sound except i cleaned it up a little to make space in the recording. this is the latest demo from my band and we're pretty happy with the song and the mix in general although the snare has a few things that i need to edit some more i think. just like a rogue hit here and there that the compressor can't quite catch the way i want

Listening as I type. I am not too keen on the handclap thing, I think pop music wore that out in the 80's... But the bass tone is pretty sweet.

This could be on the radio easily. It's got a nice groove, and good vocals. The drums are panned a bit wide, but that's a personal taste thing, don't change it of you are happy with it.

hmmm...maybe it is in there a little too much. electronic bits that is. maybe it would be better to take it out of the choruses or just bring it down further in the mix so it's not so in your face.

and the bass tone is a mexi p-bass into an ampeg B2 head through SVT810 cab. PV 520tn on the cab as well as a direct line. i love that PV mic

A very fine recording indeed.

When the singer hits the higher notes he reminds me of that guy from the counting crows. The guitar/bass combo reminds me of u2. A tight performance and captured well :).

I too am not sold on the hand claps.

Excellent use of delay on the guitar, very U2-ish. The song is put together and recorded very good. Nice work.
I also wasn't too crazy about the claps. Great song nonetheless.

Very nice performance, and I like the guitar tones a lot.
If I were you I'd loose the handclaps, just personal opinion though.

On second listen, Id like to see the vocals buried a litte bit more into the music, specially in the chorus and the high parts. A tad more reverb on vocals and a tad more pushed into the wall of sound.
Just personal opinion as always,

Mike

ha...nice. people usually tell me to turn down the reverb because i tend to wash things out like i would my guitar.

and...i'm really wanting those claps to be more of an electronic element instead of being so heavy on the clap sound. i just need to install reason again so that i can rework it.

I think the vocals could come down a little, too -- they're very good, though.

At first, I was thinking Flock of Seagulls - maybe it's the claps. As the song progressed, that went away, though. Some Counting Crows, yes. I can't make the claps work.

Beautiful!
I agree about the vocal being to close to the front and to aloud.
Post a mix without those claps. Just to be sure they have nothing to do in this particular mix.
Well done!

Sounds pretty good. The instrumentation definitely has a U2 feel to it.

I feel a little ambivalent about the claps. At the beginning and the end, they really stuck out and sounded pretty cheesy. But in the middle when the rest of the instruments were going, they were an ok sounding electronic percussive noise.

I'd recommend either toning them down during the fade in/out or replacing them with something more electronic sounding. When they sound like they're trying to be an actual clap, it comes across as inauthentic.

that was what i was trying to get at earlier. i like what it adds rhythmically but i plan to change the sounds around some at some point when i have time.

Have you tried some effects on the claps, maybe some distortion?

not yet. i'm going to go back to the source and tweak in reason first. i just did a clean install on my comp to upgrade the OS and i haven't reinstalled reason yet. yeah i'm being lazy.

Definitely sounds 80s-ish! I like it a lot, though :)

Good song, and a good mix. I think you did real well on it.
